The Center for Robotic Surgery at Sky Ridge
At Sky Ridge, our goal is to be on the leading edge of technology so that we can provide you with the most effective, safest treatment options that help get you back to the activities you love. That’s why our Center for Robotic Surgery offers the latest technology that enables our specially trained surgeons to operate with extreme precision and accuracy.
With three Xi robots, Sky Ridge performs more robotic surgeries than any other hospital in Colorado.
Robotic surgery is considered to be the most innovative type of minimally invasive surgery available today, combining human touch with the precision of a robot. With the aid of the surgical robot, our experts can operate through very small incisions, which leads to less damage to surrounding healthy tissue and, often, a faster recovery with less pain.
Why Choose Robotic Surgery?
- Smaller incisions, less pain and scarring
- Less blood loss
- Fewer complications
- Reduced risk of infection
- A shorter hospital stay
- A faster return to normal daily activities
Our Areas of Specialtization
We are proud to perform more robotic prostatectomies than any other hospital in the Denver metro area. Most commonly used for prostate cancer, this involves removing the prostate and the seminal vesicles, and then reattaching the urethra to the bladder.
- Nephrectomy and Partial Nephrectomy
Nephrectomy is a surgical procedure in which all (radical nephrectomy) or part (partial nephrectomy) of the kidney is removed. Most patients undergo a nephrectomy to treat kidney cancer, but kidney removal may also be necessary to treat a birth defect, injury or infection.
- Hysterectomy and other Gynecological Procedures
Our specially trained robotic surgeons perform hysterectomy (removal of the uterus or womb to treat cancer, uterine fibroids, endometriosis and other women's health conditions); sacrocolpopexy (procedure to insert a piece of mesh to hold the vagina and uterus in place; treatment for vaginal prolapse and uterine prolapse); myomectomy (removal of uterine fibroids)
- Gynecologic Cancer Treatment
At Sky Ridge, we are committed to providing the highest quality of care and compassion for women with cancer of the pelvic reproductive system. As part of our comprehensive women's surgical services program, we have two fellowship-trained gynecological oncology surgeons on staff.
- Colorectal Surgery
Colon cancer is cancer of the large intestine (colon), the lower part of your digestive system. Rectal cancer is cancer of the last several inches of the colon. Together, they're often referred to as colorectal cancers. Sky Ridge oncologists may use robotic surgeries to help rescet the tumor, along with other treatment modalities.
- Advanced General Surgeries
- Bariatric Surgery
To help severely overweight patients reach healthy weights, Sky Ridge offers several types of weight-loss surgery – some with the assistance of a surgical robot. These treatments are recognized safe and effective treatments for weight-related health conditions.
- Minimally Invasive Knee Resurfacing
MAKOplasty® is a new minimally invasive partial knee resurfacing procedure used to treat early to mid-stage osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee—the most common form of arthritis. MAKOplasty, powered by the RIO Robotic Arm Interactive Orthopedic system, offers a more precise and consistent result for partial knee resurfacing.
- Thoracic (Lung) Procedures
Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, killing more Americans each year than breast, prostate, colon and pancreatic cancers combined. Sky Ridge takes a multidiscplinary approach to treating conditions of the lung, including cancer. The surgical robot is often used to aid in these delicate procedures.
A hernia occurs when tissue pushes through an opening in your abdomen (ventral hernia) or groin area (inguinal hernia). A hernia can only be repaired with surgery.
